Tried using the official documentation and couldn't get zoneminder to load.

The main problem is during install no Database or User is installed.

This is what worked.

Fresh Install Debian 11

su

sudo usermod -a -G sudo <username>

sudo reboot

sudo apt update

sudo apt upgrade

sudo apt install mariadb-server

sudo /usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation

follow instructions:

Change to your requirements this works

current PW enter for none

socket auth Y

Change Root PW Y (enter your new root mysql Password)

Remove anon Y

Remove Remote Y

Remove test Y

Reload Priv Y

sudo apt install zoneminder

mysql -u root -p < /usr/share/zoneminder/db/zm_create.sql

Enter mysql PW

mysql -u root -p -e "grant select,insert,update,delete,create,drop,alter,index,lock tables,alter routine,create routine,trigger,execute on zm.* to 'zmuser'@localhost identified by 'zmpass';"

Enter mysql PW

sudo chgrp -c www-data /etc/zm/zm.conf

sudo a2enconf zoneminder

sudo systemctl reload apache2

sudo systemctl enable zoneminder.service

sudo systemctl start zoneminder

Open a web browser window type [Your IP address/zm] without the [brackets]

Hope this helps others. Recommend updating the documentation for Debian 11
